Illustration Report On ISO 14001 Certification in Iraq

ISO certification in Iraq helps the organisation to set up regulator Re and statutory requirements according to Government rules and policies. Implementation of ISO 14001 standard in the organisation will provide the sufficient proof to the society that the organisation cares very much about the environmental factors. ISO 14001 standard is generally called as environmental management system and the main focus of this International standard is to protect the natural bodies from the hazards that are infected by the organisation up on them .

ISO 14001 is suitable for organizations of all types and sizes, be they private, not-for-profit or governmental. It requires that an organization considers all environmental issues relevant to its operations, such as air pollution, water and sewage issues, waste management, soil contamination, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and resource use and efficiency.

Scope: This clause relates to the scope or coverage of the ISO 14001 certification in Iraq standard to help organizations achieve the intended outcomes of its EMS.

Normative reference: There are no normative references, for example other additional requirements in other standards, that have to be considered. The clause is retained in order to maintain the same numbering scheme as all the other management system standards.

Terms and definitions: At first sight, the listing of terms and definitions seems confusing as they are not in alphabetical order. Instead, the approach stipulated by ISO is that terms and definitions are in the order that they appear in the standard.

Leadership: This clause is all about the role of “top management” which is the person or group of people who directs and controls the organization at the highest level. The purpose is to demonstrate leadership and commitment by integrating environmental management into business processes. Top management must demonstrate a greater involvement in the management system and need to establish the environmental policy, which can include commitments specific to an organization’s context beyond those directly required, such as the ‘protection of the environment’.

Context of the organization: This is a new clause that establishes the context of the EMS and how the business strategy supports this. ‘Context of the organization’ is the clause that underpins the rest of the standard.

Planning: This clause focuses on how an organization plans actions to address both risks and opportunities which have been identified. It focuses the organization on the development and use of a planning process, rather than a procedure to address both a range of factors and the risk associated with such factors.

Support: This clause is all about the execution of the plans and processes that enable an organization to meet their EMS. Simply expressed, this is a very powerful requirement covering all EMS resource needs.

Operation: This clause deals with the execution of the plans and processes that enable the organization to meet their environmental objectives. The intent of “Context” is to provide a high-level, conceptual understanding of the important issues that can affect, either positively or negatively, the way an organization manages its environmental responsibilities. To put it another way, it is a comprehensive appreciation of the macro processes (and their interrelation) which can affect or be affected by an organization. Environmental conditions related to climate, air quality, water quality, land use, existing contamination, natural resource availability and biodiversity, external cultural, social, political, legal, technological, economic, competitive circumstances, where it operates, internal characteristics or conditions of the organization, and its capabilities.

There are a number of methodologies that can be used to determine context. A good way of achieving this is to formulate a matrix setting out the requirements of the Standard and then perform a series of interviews with appropriate employees, so that the knowledge of an organization can be harnessed. Where appropriate, this could be turned into a report. The benefit of this is that it provides a cohesive explanation and a good reference to support present and future business strategy.
